Seven months ago Antara and Grupo Minero Las Cenizas began the project to implement traceability technology in the oxide plant for the management of copper cathodes, which allows the company to have an accurate record and monitoring of the stock and production management.
This project, in addition to the technological implementation, was accompanied by the mission to operate Antara's traceability technology 100% with data stored in the cloud. This opening of the operation of traceability technology on servers that are in the cloud and are not proprietary. It is the first time that a mining company does it in conjunction with Antara, that is, it is the first time that traceability data is being carried in a cloud outside the company's server.
About four years ago Grupo Minero Las Cenizas began to open its technological infrastructure with the idea of migrating all its information to the cloud, in search of being a company that was up to date with the latest technologies. Today, occupying Antara and traceability technology under this type of infrastructure is one more step in this plan.
Claudio Ilabaca Robertson, Corporate IT Superintendent at Grupo Minero Las Cenizas, highlighted some significant advantages that have been obtained thanks to the migration, among them, "lower costs by avoiding renewing equipment and paying for data centers. In addition, we have obtained a secure, modern and more economical infrastructure.
This migration has also allowed them to improve technologically and be at the forefront of the industry.
The Cloud Traceability Project has been a carefully planned migration. First, it is necessary to ensure security and quick access to data and then migrate their system.
Rolando Jofré CTO of Antara says that "the process of migration to the cloud is quite fast and expeditious, but above all, it must be carried out under the highest standards of quality and security. This is something that Antara knows because we process very sensitive customer data, therefore, we are concerned that our platform operates with the best standards worldwide, in that sense we have a very strong alliance with Microsoft Azure".
The adoption of the project to transfer the traceability platform to the cloud was not something new for Minera Las Cenizas, as they had already been working on this digitization process previously and as part of their strategic objectives. In this sense, Claudio highlights the importance of having the strategic vision of seeking to be a company at the forefront of technology.
Finally, he emphasizes that it is not an investment as such, since it is rather a transfer of costs from the old on premise architecture, which was very difficult to maintain since its useful life raised the costs every so often.
